Run shell command on selected text

Hello,
is there a way, with gnome-do, to run shell commands on selected text?
For example, suppose I have a simple shell script called "todo" which takes some text as input and simply appends it to some text file (containing my todo list). I would like to be able to select some text in firefox bring up gnome-do and run my "todo" command on it. Is this possible?
