Do

GNOME Do Preferences doesn't exist.

Asked by Jonathan

I followed the instructions for installation on the GNOME Do wiki, which worked without error, and moved on to the Usage section. I attempted to open the preferences window in the way advised: using GNOME Do. I attempt this, but GNOME Do says it can't find anything: only GNOME Do Item Sources shows up.

Is there a reason the preferences don't exist? Is there an alternate way to access them?

The version installed as standard on Hardy is 0.4 and does not include the preferences dialog. To upgrade, add the following repositories:-

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/do-core/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/do-core/ubuntu hardy main

You can do this by navigating to System -> Administration -> Software Sources and adding each entry on the Third Party Software tab. When you exit, select the option to reload all the sources. After a few moments the Software Update notifier in the panel should show an update for Gnome-do. Install this to go to version 0.6 which includes the new preferences dialog.

I had this problem as well, and just found out this morning. Colins advice worked like a charm for me. Thank you very much! Took all of about 3 minutes to get it upgraded. Thanks again!

Make sure your current running gnome-do 0.40 is COMPLETELY shut down and removed before trying this. Otherwise you might come dangerously close to posting really REALLY stupid comments on launchpad (ahem... not that I made that mistake...)

A side note: Bug #26702 has been filed requesting a freeze exception to allow Gnome Do 0.6 to be included in Intrepid (Ubuntu 8.10). Without the freeze exception, Ubuntu 8.10 would ship with Gnome Do 0.42, which does not include the preferences dialog.
