Do

How can I tell what GNOME Do is indexing and when?

Asked by mjs7231

This question has a few parts.. :)

1.) How do I force a re-index of the files?
2.) How do I know when Gnome.do is indexing files?
3.) Can I use environment variables in the ~/.do/FileItemSource.config?
4.) Is there any way to see how many files are indexed or what is indexed?

Thanks,
-- Mike

The program name is "GNOME Do," not "Gnome.do".

1. There is no manual control of indexing at this point, and I hope there never will be. You should let algorithms take care of that, and not waste thought or UI on it.
2. What do you mean? If you run Do from a terminal and have updating enabled through Configuration Editor (gconf), you will see periodic print-outs indicating that updates have taken place.
3. No. You may use ~, though.
4. Sort of. Search for the GNOME Do application item in Do, press right arrow to view its children. You will see a list of all of Do's item sources. You can browse into the item sources as well to see all of the items they index.

In my opinion it would make sense to provide possibility to initiate index rescanning manually. When installing a new program it's not possible to launch it with Gnome Do instantly. Being able to initiate a rescan would help...

BTW: What are the default rescanning intervals of Gnome Do?
