Not a definitive answer, but have you checked for a BIOS upgrade from the mfg website?

1. whats the mfg website?
2. I have a really new, up to date PC, I dont know why it loads up fine on the laptop adn just hangs at the root filesystem on my PC.

Ok, well the mfg would be the manufacture's website. Usually you just need the Make and Model of the computer. Then go to the mfg website, ie dell.com sony.com or whoever makes your computer and check for a BIOS Firmware upgrade. What is the make and model of your computer?

Its custom, the BIOS is Intel 965P AWARD BIOS Ver F7, which i believe is the latest version and the Motherbaord is a GIGABYTE S Series GA-965P-DS3.

Oh yeah, its not overclocked at all, I heard that could mess up some LiveCD's.

Ok, well there is an update on the Gigabyte website, but probably won't help your issue. When it hangs, if you let it be for a while, does it drop you to a command prompt? If you can, you might want to download and burn the newest version of Ubutnu and give that a shot, it seems that by doing a quick search that a lot of people were having this problem, but I didn't see a 'for sure' answer. Might want to try that and see if it works for you. There is also an updated version of 6.06, which is 6.06.1, but the newest version is 6.10.

Yeah it hangs at the "Mounting Root Filesystem" screen then drops me to a prompt that says "Uncompressing Linux.....OK, booting the Kernal" and then I cant do anything from there. Whereas on my laptop, it just mounts the rott filesystem and continues to mount the points etc, then loads up fine.

When the install menu appears select the appropriate method, hit F6, delete the 'quiet' option if it appears. After the '--' type 'nolapic' and hit enter.

See if that helps at all.

Well, it hangs at exactly the same place, but the non-quiet one does give some more information. This is a screendump of the last things i saw before it dropeed me to a pormpt again.

Begin: Loading Essential Drivers... ...
Done.
Begin: Running /scripts/init-premount ...
Done.
Begin: Mounting root file system... ...
*

*This is where it hangs and nothing else happenes.

Im downloading 6.10 now but do you have any other ideas?

I think it might have to do with the SATA drivers that are included with that version. Not sure though, if you don't use SATA drives, you could try and disable the SATA controller in the BIOS and see if that helps you out. Also please let us know how it goes with 6.10 version.

Well, ive tried to disable the SATA controller bu then I do that, the cd isnt detected adn therefore wont boot at all, 6.10 is downloading now anyway.

Ive tried other distros of linuxadn they all fail at the "Loading Root Filesystem" so I know that its got something to do with my PC configuration.

Well hopefully 6.10 will work for you. I am sure that you don't need any help with burning and testing the disk, but just in case.
