Asked by wondermutt

WinXP was already installed on the comp. I installed ubuntu onto a second partion along side xp, but when I boot up or restart the computer it just goes directly into windows. How do I get it to show both OSes?

When you installed ubuntu on the computer, where did you load the boot loader (grub)? Was it installed on you MBR (Master Boot Record)?

I don't recall the installation procees asking me where to install grub. I didn't interact with anything past the six steps and I never saw the words grub or grand unified bootloader in any of those steps. I do remeber seeing the word boot in the last column at the mount step next to my xp partition.

This computer has three physical drives one pata two sata and both winxp and ubuntu are loaded onto sata0. The partitions are identical 36900mb volumes with a 2400 something mb swap part between them. I tried the fix for installing windows after ubuntu but that didn't work:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RecoveringUbuntuAfterInstallingWindows#head-09167948173503db5923da717a106f0c3aac1cd2

The find command returned (hd1,2) so that is what I used there.

After damaging my xp install trying to fix the ubuntu install and being unable to recover xp I have decided that ubuntu isnt worth the disk I burned it to. Thanks for looking like you were trying to help JJ.
