Hahaha. I'm sure you're not a dork.

Ok, chances are that CD probably only has Windows drivers on it and is no good for Ubuntu. The first thing to do is see if Ubuntu already supports your printer. The following is a good place to start to learn about this:-

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Printers

But briefly I'll tell you to go System --> Administration --> Printing. Then choose "new printer" and follow the prompts. It will ask you for the make and model of the printer part way through. You don't mention which printer you have, but if it's not in that list then it *might* not be supported or it *might* be, but using a different (similar) driver, or it might require a driver to be installed in the form of an extra package from Ubuntu or a 3rd party.

However, I can't tell you what the answer is without the make and model of your printer. Can you tell me that?

I have a different type of problem when I click on System->Administration->Printing, I get a pop-up say "The CUPS server could not be contacted".

Please help.

abhinavchaitanya could you please create a separate ticket please? It gets very confusing having two sets of problems in one thread. Thanks..

Hi John.

If you want to open another ticket visit the following URL:-

https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+tickets

Then click "Request Support". Unfortunately I'm not in a position to call you or take calls right now personally. To be honest you're better off requesting support as I described above because although it might be me answering it, there are other bigger brains than mine around who may well know answers to your questions where I don't. In addition I can only answer questions in the spare time I have, so you could potentially be waiting a while.

Good luck!

Greetings, Alan Pope; Thanks much!!!!! You have been very helpful! As far as intelligence goes; If I were lost in the forestand an idiot came along(which by the way you are not)I'd much rather have the idiot's company than 2 or 3 mensa quality folks who are not with me at the time. All that to say you were there to help me and I"m grateful. Also, from your very first response to me, you seem to have a sense of humour. Thanks again.Best Regards; John G.
