Will it be more user-friendly?

Asked by AppleCrow

By checking screenshot and test the application something disturbs me :

The way of this utility is to profide an easy way to configure display.

But the user has to choose his video card...
...
And that's an HUGE BUG from a common user.

90% of the time a basic user doesn't know what kind of card he has on its computer.
An unskilled user can have the chance to know if he has an ATi, Nvidia, Intel, Via, S3 or SIS chipset.
If he has changed his video card, most of the time he only knows the marketing name of his video card.

This part of the application has sended me 8 years back in time, when XFree needs that user set it up manually.

About the monitor configuration, I've no real suggestion, as by default user has to choose between several generic monitor configuration (which is most of the time suffisant). And we can't ask users to find the exact specifications, and there's no need as now data can be retrieve through DCC most of the time.

In this way can you improve the application to provide a more user-friendly configuration tool?
In a wonderful world user will have only to set how he will to display its desktop through a few option (even monitor configuration could be considered as advanced option for user).

This sounds like a "feature request" to me and should be filed under
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/displayconfig-gtk

Then, develloper will be able to take it in consideration.
Moreover, the next flavor of xrandr (1.2) will help coping with the issue you are describing (as far as I know).

hope this helps
