What to do with a reserved name?

I'm trying to switch to using snaps instead of PPAs as the distribution method because Debian packaging documentation is arcane and requires too much time to understand and get right (just reading how to publish a package to a PPA takes you all the way up to fixing a bug in Ubuntu(?!)).

I tried registering "mudlet" as a snap name, but I got a "'mudlet' is a reserved name." error. What can I do about this?
