no information on compatibility with new ubuntu releases

Asked by meta hatton

since discovering this tool two months ago i've been itching to try it out, and was planning to use it as part of my planned upgrade to ubuntu 10.10 on my second hand dimension e520. quite simply because i can't stand the great graphics capabilities being ignored and unused.

there seems to be no recent information on it's use with newer releases of ubuntu as it seems to have fossilised at 9.10. i am having problems with the git and grub but have no idea if this is because of an incompatibility or problems external to and or independent from this tool.

i was given two options in the git dropdown, a00 and a01, i have no information on these or their relevance. also after install i was asked about which drive to use for the bootloader, but each choice was rejected. after reboot my grub hadn't been updated to include this new install, which i'm currently learning how to fix before i'll know whether it's even viable.

pages such as http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/linux/building-base-ubuntu-factory-iso.aspx and http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/linux/consumer-linux.aspx have been abandoned with only the widdliest of whines. since the developer said "version 9.10 or later" it appears only the css has been modified. it seems incredible that other dell ubuntu users will not have been clamouring to update, but even so i ask where is the up to date compatibility guide? surely this should have been passed to canonical?

i thankyou for your attention and hope something can be done for dell ubuntu users.

There is now documentation directly within the tool versions included directly in Ubuntu (in the help menu). Additionally you can obtain a pre-built ISO directly from http://linux.dell.com/files/ubuntu/maverick/

thankyou, i had failed to find the iso download page before, and my version of the tool may have been out of date or i just failed to find the help menu. although i don't have my ubuntu system available to check, i hope that it will contain tips on the git selection and any known bugs for hardware, partition, or version quirks. i now know where to start looking for solutions when i run into difficulties. problem solved.
