Losing keyboard settings

I am having problems retaining my keyboard settings.
I go into System > Preferences > Keyboard and make changes. I use "Type to test settings" to confirm the correct keyboard mapping. However, when I reboot the keyboard mappings have changed (even though System Preferences is still set as before).

As a secondary, can anyone tell me what the keyboard model should be set to in System > Preferences > Keyboard ?

Many thanks - this does indeed address the issue.
I have added an execution of setxkbmap to my System>Preferences>Sessions.
