How to fix VGA output resolution/shift problem?

Asked by BVP

Yesterday, I used my mini 9 to make a presentation by connecting to an LCD projector. After typing Fn and 8, my mini's dispaly was projected on the screen via LCD projector. However, about 20% of the right part of the monitor of mini 9 was not displayed at all. Thinking about this 20%, the VGA output might have tried to send 800x600 part of my monitor. Anyway, after typing Fn + 8 keys several times didn't solve the problem. I am wondering how to fix this problem.

Thanks for your help!
BVP

PS: I'm using ubuntu kernel 2.6.24-19-lpia installed by dell and updated automatically yesterday.

BVP,

Try this: Don't use the Fn+8 key at all. Connect the VGA chord, then open "System" > "Preferences" > "Screen Resolution". Click "Detect Displays".
Now the projector should be projecting something. If the picture is gobbled up or cut off, try setting the screen resolution to 1024x768. Now the projector should be fine, but you won't be able to see the entire display on your Mini 9 screen. If that still didn't work, log out and log back in.

At some point the projector should work. :)
Good luck!

Dear Bene,

Thanks a lot! In fact, I also resolved this problem by trial and error in front of the projector. Yes, I can project to the screen correctly using 1024x768 resolution, but it is not good to be able to see the entire display in the mini9 monitor. 1024x600 portion of 1024x768 is shown on the mini9 monitor. I sincerely hope that the next version of the software update will correct all these problems. In principle, I still believe that these should be done by Fn + 8 keys.

Best regards,
BVP
