404 error! Downloading the dell's ubuntu restore system restore file

Asked by Kenny Leao

Sometmes, i do a system restore by the downloading the actual file of Dell's custom Ubuntu for the Dell mini 9 model.

By going in the terminal and typing in:
wget -c ftp://ftp.dell.com/OS/Inspiron_910_Ubuntu_A00.img

and I would use the program 'writer image' to upload the file on a usb flash drive stick.. and than plug it in and do a system restore upon start up of the system.

I have done this before.

for some reason. It gives a 404 error. which means the file doesn't exist. Is it a server error? Or did Dell remove that file?

is there a creditable mirror site to download it from?

That file is BIOS upgrade, not a complete system recovery image.

There is no downloadable recovery image at this point.

You will need to get an external USB in order to use the recovery CD that came with your system in order to perform a full system factory recovery.

Do you have a reference to the "writer image" software you mention ? Is it for Ubuntu or Windows ?

Technically it's not a BIOS upgrade as the A00 BIOS is the one that originally shipped with the Mini 9.

Apologies I was a bit quick answering this question. That file was indeed a recovery image, however it was removed.

As you noticed that site is on Dell.com, not Ubuntu.com. Not much I can do about it.

but you work for Canonical. Canonical and Dell worked together to get this pre installed OS to work on the Dell mini 9 model.

Yes, however I can't control what Dell does with their FTP site.

Can you help with this problem?
