installing compiz

Asked by FM101

I am a newbe.
I am trying to install compiz on a dell mini 9.
My dell mini 9 says:
About says ubuntu 8.04
The gnome desktop. version 2.22.2

I installed
* compizconfig-settings-manager
* emerald
rebooted.

I now have the Advanced Desktop Effects.
However, I do not think they are working.
I think I might still have to enable the visual effects? Somehow?

In
System -> Preferences -> Appearance
I do not see a visual effects tab
I have theme, background, fonts and interface
I do not have the Visual effects tab

thanks

I found that the fusion-icon packge helped start full effects by using "restart window manager".

Instead of compizconfig-settings-manager I'd suggest using the simple-ccsm which will fit the Mini screen and I find easier to use. When using it I was only able to set the "High effects" profile, however activating it disabled wireless at some point and I couldn't make the desktop effects stick after reboot.

If anyone has tested this on a factory-installed Ubuntu Mini 9, I'd be glad to hear about it.

what is "restart window manager"?
How about enabling your video card?
My Dell mini 9 does not have the
System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> visual effects tab

Can you terminal enable your video card?

"Restart Window Manager" is an option available from the icon when you install fusion-icon and start it (under Applications > System).

That that is missing, it seems the mini 9 ships with an Ubuntu version that may not be enabled for desktop effects (other than the basic ones).

Can you help with this problem?
