Will Ubuntu allow me to access through a "Neoteris" portal as I currently do with XP

Asked by esterfalls

I would like to buy Dell's inspiron mini 9, which Dell advertizes as "Mini OS powered by Ubuntu 8.04" http://www.dell.com/content/products...=hmpgwn1&s=dhs

However, I do not want to do this unless I have reasonable assurance that Ubuntu will allow me to access my company's system over the internet,,,,,which I must access through a portal provided by "Neoteris". "Neoteris" brings me to a web page with the company's logo and large lettering---"Instant Virtual Extranet"---where I log in with my user name and password. When I log in I see references to "Juniper Networks", "Java", and "secure appletes". I don't know what any of this means, but it works well with Windows XP. I want to make a switch to Ubuntu because seems to offer a lot of flexibility and does not take up as much of the limited fix memory (16gig) hard drive, but again only if I can get the same access through the "Neoteris" portal I do with XP. I'm not interested in spending time trying work arounds to get access. If it won't work just tell me. Dell also sells the mini9 with XP loaded, and I'll just buy it if I have too. On the other hand, I really hope it does because I interested in exploring the world through Ubuntu.

My advice would to be to get an Ubuntu LiveCD and try it it on a computer you already have.

I'd also ask your IT department to confirm this, and at least let them know you'll be running Ubuntu. Don't assume your IT people don't support Ubuntu without asking them.

I use it aall the time for my secure access. No problems. Neoteris is the firewall and it runs a java client. that is what you are seeing. I had a java issue with Firefox 3.2 and I upgraded my home pc to a 64 bit version. (didnt like the 32 bit neoteris version). But i loaded the 32 bit java client and it works fine for me.

Can you help with this problem?
