Why does our dell mini keep getting full partitions after a day of searching on or playing game internet and facebook.

Asked by Randall Harper

We have a dell mini inspiron 910 intel atom, processor n270, 1.6ghz, 533mhz512k L2 cache, 1gb, ddr2,533mhz, 1 dimm 4gb solid state drive,

OS powered by ubuntu 8.04.1

After doing searches on the internet or playing a few games on facebook, when I turn off the mini and come back on it later in the day or night, I get a startup error saying that the partition is full. The only way I can start up the notebook is to re-install the ubunty software and recovery media and then go through all the 409 updates before I can use the notepad again. I have to do this three to four times a week. Is this a bug or is there a bio update needed to correct this issue. It seems the cache is not released and is held in memory from playing different games and doing all the searching on the internet.

I hope you can help me with this and maybe fix it.

The mini is not use for any storage or downloads, it is only used to check emails in yahoo and to play or check facebook, and the only game in facebook is bejewled.

so the 4gb hard drive should not be full causing the partition to become full.

You might still have a lot of installation packages from system updates. Try this: Open the terminal and type:

sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get clean

This might free some space.

You are welcome. You can easily check how much free space you have by opening a window to your home folder, and look at the bottom in the status bar. It should tell you how much free space you have.

Given the small size of your HD, I would perform the above procedure every time, assuming it solves your problem. Having enough free space is crucial if you want to be able to get future updates.
