No options menu / Regular full backup

Asked by Tobias Baldauf

Hi!

I've got 2 questions:

1. I'm using the latest testing version of Déjà Dup. Since the last update, the whole menu-bar has disappeared for me. I'm using gnome-globalmenu. Now, I can't change settings anymore. How come?

2. I have been trying to get daily backups over SSH. Because of the amount of data, they should be incremental. But since a couple of versions, Déjà Dup has startet to do full backups every couple of weeks. This is a big pain for me because for each full backup, my machine has to run constantly for 2 days and each time something goes wrong so that I have to start the whole full backup 2-3 times each time Déjà Dup wants to do a full backup. I have told Déjà Dup to keep backups indefinitely. So, what could cause this odd behaviour & more importantly, how can I stop it?

Thank you for your help & patience!

Thank you for your testing! :)

(1) Huh. I'm not familiar with gnome-globalmenu. I assume it's a mac-like menu thing at the top? I'll look into it. But for now, you can actually change options by running the preference program ('deja-dup-preferences').

(2) It's not configurable right now. Full backups are made to help make sure that you don't get stuck with an unrecoverable backup. (One really shouldn't turn it off, since the more incrementals you have, the more likely it is that the chain will not be recoverable. The duplicity maintainer was getting nervous at the size of the incrementals Deja Dup was generating.) I think the current default is no more than once a month. It used to be no more than twice a month during the 13.x series. Note that your machine does not have to run constantly. In theory, recent duplicity&deja-dup combos will resume from interruption.
