if I would like to perform a weekly backup on a NAS

HI as I'm looking strait forward to buy a NAS, I wondered whether this would be considered as local storage or if the option for eg. STORAGEBIRD DUO 35-LR

supports: TCP/IP, FTP, SMB/CIFS

are missing

Since version 10, Deja Dup has been able to backup to anything that nautilus can connect to (which means FTP/SMB/etc). So it sounds like that would work.

But if I didn't connect to the e.g smb storage with nautilus, will it be Déja Dup be able to connect automaticly if it's available ?

Yes. Deja Dup will connect to it. When you're setting up your preferences, you have to connect to it manually first, so you can choose it as a location from the preferences window. But when actually backing up, Deja Dup knows how to connect.
