Will Déjà Dup someday include pause/resume and reconnect-abilities?

Asked by Tobias Baldauf

Hi!

I've been using Déjà Dup for a long while. It is the only GUI backup-solution that let's me easily backup my home directory to an external server via ssh. Still, there are some unresolved questions for me that need answering:

1. Will Déjà Dup include "Pause" + "Resume" soon? I am currently unable to do a full backup of my home directory because the amount of data that needs to be uploaded is so large that it is not done quickly. I change locations + thus IP and each time, Déjà Dup aborts because of the failed connection to the external server via ssh. If there was a "Pause" button I could hit and a "Resume" button that would start the backup again from where it was paused, this could be avoided.

2. Similar to the scenario in question 1: Will Déjà Dup soon include a functionality to take up a backup from where it was before? Right now, I'm uploading >3GB of data to my server via ssh and then my IP changes / a small error occurs / $whatever happens and Déjà Dup aborts and all the hours uploading the previous 3GB of data are wasted. This really makes me mad. Why can't Déjà Dup just pick up on the position it was before? Will there be a "Reconnect + Resume" funtion someday? I, for one, really need it!

Thank you for your time & patience!

In answer to (2), yes. The next version 11.0 will support resuming where it left off (if you have a new enough duplicity as well).

In answer to (1), yes. There will be a 'Resume Later' button while you're backing up that will pick up where you stopped.

If you're super-brave and on Ubuntu, you can try pre-release snapshots here: https://launchpad.net/~deja-dup-team/+archive/testing Using this is not recommended: it may eat your backup and babies, etc.

Re-reading your (1), it currently isn't Pause/Resume, but rather "pressing Resume Later closes deja-dup and then next time you backup, it will resume".
