Restore single file option not available

Asked by Zeca

Hello,

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS, and the tool named Backups (seems to be an alias for Déjà Dup) does not show any option to restore files.
In the help file and forums this seems to be an obvious choice, but althoug I have automated backups on, and seem to be working, this option is not to be found.

Any guidance on this?

Thank you!

https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/DejaDup/Help/Restore/Revert

That page has some instructions. We are hoping to make this more obvious (in-app) in the future.

Hello,

I am using Ubuntu 20.04 and have the same problem.
It was initially available, I did a test run immediately after my first complet backup.

All of a sudden it dissapeared, probably after an update.
The rest of deja-dup works fine, does daily backups and can do a complete restore.

Only the context menu entry for files and folders is missing.

This is working for me from the context menu @mterry
It will only work from the 'Files' app (Nautilus/GNOME), not other file managers.
This does not include the Desktop directly, only through a file manager window.

@Zeca, I know it works. It worked for me also in the beginning.
I think one of the updated broke something but without any debug messages, I can't do anything.

Hello. Let me try to understand the issue Andrei:
- Deja Dup is mostly working (you can backup and do a full restore)
- You used to be able to do single-file restores from the file manager
- But now you can't

I'm not sure why that would happen all of a sudden like that. Is your version of Deja Dup 40.6 or 40.7? Those *should* have the integration with Files still supported.

Note that when you upgrade from Ubuntu 20.04, you will get a newer version of Deja Dup (42+) that drops the file manager support and instead adds an in-app browse and restore interface that is hopefully a little easier for folks to find.

But back to your problem. I'd suggest two options:
1) Use the terminal. Open a Terminal window and type "deja-dup --restore path/to/the/file/you/want/to/restore"
2) Install the snap package, which will give you the latest released version and you'll have the in-app browser then. You can do this with "snap install deja-dup --classic"

Can you help with this problem?
