Should I compress data before using Deja Dup?

Asked by 1Place

Is my understanding correct that Deja Dup securely encrypts files; however, this does not include compressing files?

My intention is to backup files to S3 and therefore should I first be compressing files before using Deja Dup?

I want to automate the process of backing up as efficiently and as securely as possible, therefore is there a 2 stage process that is needed to backup my documents folders:
1) Compress;
2) Encrypt & backup using Deja Dup?

Is there a way to automate these 2 steps (if step 1 is required).

Thanks for your help.

Good question. Deja Dup does compress the data as it encrypts. So step 1 is not necessary.

I should make that clearer in the feature list.

Can you help with this problem?
