Make a back-up and restire 1 file

Asked by James Gibbens

I am old and do not know much about computers, etc., so please bear with me.

I have an old computer that worked well on Windows XP and have since started using Fedora. I have a 1T external hard drive which I use to make back=ups using Deja-Dup. This is done about once a week. Three days ago I inadvertently deleted a file on which I was working. So, restore it. Having searched and tried I could not find the Fedora documents, /home/james, on the back-up. What I did find was all the files under Windows XP. Now, how do I convince Deja-Dup to back-up my Fedora files onto the external hard drive, called Elements? Having that information, how do I restore the missing file? I take it that if I make a new back-up the file will be lost.

I sometimes forget to tell Deja-Dup to use Elements for the back-up It then uses an internal folder. If I list the files here I see a lot of files names starting with duplicity...... and dates and different suffices. Can I use these files to restore the missing file? How, please!!
Thank you for your attention and patience. It is appreciated.
All the best,
James Gibbens
