Short answer: Probably not

Long answer: It is the goal of this project to avoid things like cron, which do not run as the process of the user, that wants to perform the backup. One could of course add a new monitoring daemon, which triggers the backup in user space, but it would make things way more complicated, than we want them to be.

If you really miss such a feature, you certainly grown out of Déjà Dup, which "aims squarely at the casual user. It is not designed for system administrators, but rather the less technically savvy. " (see our Mission Statement at https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/DejaDup/Mission).
