Hello Tobias,
I do not think that Déjà Dup provides yet a mean to delete old backup. You have to do it (yet?) by hand.
Where did you save your backups? (I mean on an external hard disk, on a SSH server, on Amazon S3 , etc.)
When I know where you saved them, I can tell you a mean to delete the old ones (or at least I hope so ;-) )

There's an open bug (bug 325005) about that. Deja Dup currently doesn't let you manage the backup files.

Please don't delete backups files by hand. I'm not involved in the developing of Dejadup, but I'm quite sure it's based on a full initial snapshot followed by delta incrementals (what has changed since). Deleting old files would leave the backup with no starting point.
What we should require is an option in preferences such as:
Do full snapshot every 1....n Day|Week|Month|DayOfMonth
Do incrementals every 1....n Day|Week|Month

In such a way, there will be a block of files that can be auto-contained, and can be transfered to an alternate backup archive.

I'll point out that in recent releases, DD will make the occasional full snapshot and there is a preference for cleaning out old sets of backups (snapshot + its incrementals) as they age.

Still no UI way to pick sets of backups and delete them though.

So if I set the backup interval as "weekly" and set it up to not retain the Backup "monthly" then the full backup would occur every other week with an incremental b/u th in between weeks. However, DD is hanging onto backup 'sets' that have occured 3 months ago. This is consuming larger amounts of HD space every month. I'm using the release currently in the Ubuntu libaries so how do I address this issue? Other than this, I really like this app, it's the only backup tool I've found that give an encryption option.

JohnL, that sounds like a bug. It should have deleted those older sets. I'll look into it.
