How to restore Backups without deja-dup?

Asked by mb

Hello,

how can I restore deja-dup backups without deja-dup? I made backups on a local area network ssh server and now have a folder full of 1MB .gz files. Trying to open them with file-roller returns a "permission denied". I think that it should be important to create simple .gz backup files to ensure the deja-dup-backups can be accessible for other operating systems and for the future.

regards

You can restore them with the command line tool duplicity, which may be more widely available than Deja Dup. But yes, there is room for improvement there.

Maybe a thumb drive image that you can backup from would be useful. A Deja Dup live CD. :)

Or possibly just ports to other operation systems, though Deja Dup is currently rather wedded to GNOME.

Can you help with this problem?
