Setting the tmp-variable

Asked by Tobias Baldauf

How do I set the variable which path duplicity (which you seem to use in the backend) uses to store temporary files? My partition + /tmp is running low on space & I'd like to set another path where this backup-tool saves temp-files before they are pushed to the server. Thank you!

Hello! You can set the TMPDIR environment variable to point somewhere else.

For example, run "TMPDIR=/dejatmp deja-dup".

Hi Michael,
I have a similar problem but I'd only like to restore a few folders to my netbook so I can soldier on while I wait for my replacement desktop computer. The netbook only has a tiny root partition, so is there a way to set the TMPDIR environment variable when you're just using the restore folders extension to Nautilus?

Kind regards,
Jonathon

Jonathon, you could run nautilus with the TMPDIR set. But there is another way: you can use the command line to do what the nautilus extension does.

TMPDIR=/blarg deja-dup --restore /path/to/file/to/restore
or
TMPDIR=/blarg deja-dup --restore-missing /path/to/folder/to/check

Thank you Michael,
I'll give that a try.
