I can create a backup after I first install...by pressing the install... button. Install button is grayed out.

Asked by Steve Robbins

I'm running the program for the first time. I've read all the help screens. I've spent time online with different websites giving deja-dup pointers and examples, even screenshot by screenshot walkthroughs. But nobody ever talks about the Overview screen where it says "No recent backups.//You can restore existing backups after you first install some necessary software by clicking the install... button." There is a helpful "Install..." button below. It is greyed out. I am not allowed to make any backups because the button is deactivated.

Then it says "Next backup is today." (see I have set up deja-dup to do some backups weekly)//You can create a backup".....you guessed it. "by clicking the Install... button." and you are our grand prize winner today, the install button is also greyed out.

So your software is set up not to allow me to use it? Why doesn't the help system even mention this "feature?" why do none of the Linux websites mention this? What do I do?

I think the Install... buttons should be black, not gray and something like installing the necessary software should happen when you press them. But who am I?

Thank you!

Hello Steve.

That is the intended behaviour. The reason for this is, that the backend had been excluded from the installer of ubuntu, because it relies on python 2, which was dropped.

See linked bug for details about this.

This bug does tell you what to install (manually) to fix your situation (although the fact that the buttons are greyed out by you is new to me).
