Can't launch déja dup and can't backup to external disk

Asked by Ludo Van der Stock

After a crash and reinstall of thrusty tar, I can't launch déja dup. But, the program starts automatically at start-up and puts the backup copy on my internal disk at the home directory. I want the backup copy on my external disk, as before the crash.
When the copy is made I don't find the possibility to change anything, so I have to close down the program.
I reinstalled twice: (1) from the software center and (2) via the terminal window, but it has the same problem: I cannot acces to change the settings. Déjà Dup is not appearing in the system settings.
(I'm working in Dutch on the PC, but understand also English, French, Romanian and German). Tnx.

It should appear in the System Settings if you are using normal Ubuntu. But you can manually make it appear. Try running deja-dup-preferences in the Terminal.

No, it's still not in the System settings or elsewhere. But YES, it apperars with the 'deja-dup-preferences' command. It's a good solution, but why it is not in my system settings stays a open question. I fixed it in my starter anyway. A bug? Tnx Michael.

I had a similar problem, after "Backup" (i.e. Deja Dup) was removed from the Settings in Ubuntu 16.04.

Is there a way to avoid having to open a terminal to execute "deja-dup-preferences" - e.g. execute automatically on startup, or create an icon that executes that command?
