setting the first password (when there is no previous password)

Asked by Mika Nylander

I am using Ubuntu 12.10. I am trying to protect my backups to external hard drive (WD Elements hard drive) with password. When I made the first backup there was a window in which it was possible to set a password. However I first chose to not set any password. Now I want to set the password. How can I find the same window again. I tried to go to applications-accessories- passwords and encryption keys-but there was nothing because there was no password set before. How can I find access to the window where I can set the first password?

You cannot change an existing backup set to use encryption. So you need to start a backup in a fresh location. Either move the existing files away and start a new backup pointed at the old location; or change your backup settings to point at a new location folder. The first time Deja Dup tries to back up to an empty location, it will ask you whether you want to encrypt the files or not.
