Restore in new system

Asked by Yann Dirlaouen

Hi,

I use Deja Dup with my computer for backup with ubuntu 11.04
Last week, i have a problem with linux upgrade 11.04 to 11.10 and my linux system is KO.
Today, i install new linux 10.04 LTS on my computer and i want restore all my documents with Deja Dup.
But i don't find the solution to restore all documents with deja dup. Is it possible to restore documents between two differents versions of linux (Ubuntu 11.04 for saving and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS for restore)
Thanks for your help.

Yann

(Sorry for super late response)

It should be possible, yes. Install Deja Dup, open it, and click the restore button.

Or are you saying that you did that, but got an error? If so, please file a bug.

I have posted a similar question and have the following response based on what I know so far.

I have made an encrypted backup of my Home directory and I'm making an unencrypted backup as I write this.

I see that Deja Dup is creating bunches of .gz files as it's making the unencrypted backup. So, if you happened to make a non-encrypted backup, then in a worse case scenario, you should be able to extract your files from the .gz files. Of course, where to restore them to will be up to you.

I hope that helps or did you get this solved long ago?

Hello team,

I have a similar problem and I'm really upset...
I just lost my entire files after doing a backup using deja dup. When I tried to restore the software says "No backup found".
I new in Ubuntu and I already read the avaliable documentation.

I hope someone may help..
Thanks
