was my backup successful?

Asked by Jan

Every week Deja-Dup starts performing backups as expected but eventually no message is displayed indicating whether the backup was successful or not. Because I doubt, I started Deja-Dup from the terminal and it shows some disturbing messages ('CRITICAL') but I'm not sure what it means actually.

Could you let me know how I can ensure that my backup was successful and if any other problem exist?

Here is the terminal output (it is reproducible.):

hans@msi:~$ deja-dup-preferences

I wouldn't worry about the critical message. Seems harmless.

What version of Deja Dup are you using? Modern versions do give a little popup to say the backup was successful, but old versions didn't.

Version: 20.1-0ubuntu0.2

Since Deja-Dup just exits without any message, I guess it crashes.

What desktop environment are you using?

The best way to make sure everything is OK is to actually try restoring.

I use the latest Ubuntu with Unity.

Actually I don't want to trigger a restore of my valuabe "production" data unless I'm confident that it's going to work. And I don't have enough space available to restore it to another location for testing purposes.

Any other advise how to debug this issue?

You can try restoring just one file. Navigate to the file in your File Browser and right click on it, selecting "Revert to previous version"

Can you help with this problem?
