backup on my cloud but also in /home?

Asked by Pech Alain

I use deja-dup on Ubuntu 11.10.
As I backup my /home/user on my Ubuntu cloud dejadup/machine I notice that a similar directory is present in my /home and it's space consuming. Is it normal? or have I done a wrong dejadup configuration?

Do you mean ~/.cache/deja-dup ?

If so, it's harmless (though can get large). You can delete it. It will be recreated (though likely smaller) next backup run.

I mean in ~/deja-dup/Sirius. Sirius is my hostname.

gandalf@Sirius:~$ ls
Bureau Documents examples.desktop Modèles Public Ubuntu One
deja-dup etat Images Musique Téléchargements Vidéos
gandalf@Sirius:~$ cd deja-dup
gandalf@Sirius:~/deja-dup$ ls
Sirius
gandalf@Sirius:~/deja-dup$ cd Sirius
gandalf@Sirius:~/deja-dup/Sirius$ ls

gandalf@Sirius:~/deja-dup/Sirius$

If I look on my Ubuntu One cloud I find the same files in the directory deja-dup/Sirius that I have define : it's the backup I expected. So, I wonder who has created ~/deja-dup/Sirius and can I delete it.

That's odd. It might have been a mistake when you were setting up your first backup? Like maybe you accidentally did your first backup to a local folder? If that's unlikely, it seems to be a bug.

But regardless, you can delete it safely. If your current backup settings point to Ubuntu One, you shouldn't need that folder at all.
