Does my Debian repository version of Déjà-Dup contain an already fixed bug?

Asked by Eli Flanagan

I can no longer backup my hard disk using Déjà-Dup. The problem started today. It gives me an "unknown error" when I try to backup giving my encryption key and usual destination.

I am using Déjà-Dup version 14.2 on Debian Squeeze. Before filing a bug report, I wanted to ask to see if perhaps this is a bug that has already been fixed but not yet reflected by the version I am using in my distribution. The error could relate to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/deja-dup/+bug/388034

I have tried backing up encrypted and unencrypted.

Thanks!

That particular bug you pointed out was fixed in duplicity 0.6.1, but since squeeze has duplicity 0.6.8b, that shouldn't be your specific problem.

But there have been plenty of fixes in deja-dup and duplicity since squeeze's version. It's very possible they've been fixed since then.

Is it possible to get newer versions of those two packages?

I remember when using Ubuntu I could add a ppa that someone maintained with a newer version of the package. I don't know about doing this on Debian.
I downloaded the source, but am unsure installing from source and if this might fix the issue.

I think a semi-official way to get newer packages in Debian is to upgrade to the testing release. I might end up doing that...

Oddly, I ran into some I/O and mounting errors with the disk drive. I had to reformat it and then was able to backup my harddrive again using Déjà-Dup. Thus, the problem was probably with my drive and Déjà-Dup just did not recognize the issue.

Thanks for the answer thought Michael.
