Deja Dup is failing to remove old archives

Asked by pjaikins

I am running Natty and backing up my home partition daily to a NAS drive mounted as an SMB share. Backups have been working fine, but I have run out of space on the drive because Deja is not removing old archives even though I have set it to only keep two months worth. Any ideas?

I turned this into a bug report, as I suspect Deja Dup isn't behaving correctly here. I hope that answers your question about whether that's expected (it's not!), and you can follow progress in bug 793534.

I am having a similar problem, the NAS is running out of space and when checking I found out, that the backup directory grew to ~3times the size of the original data. I did not add much data or change it, so a incremental backup should not increase in size that much or am I wrong?

Every now and then DejaDup reports that the backup might take some time because it is doing a full backup or something, might that be the problem? Is it actually doing a full backup of all files even if they didn't change?

Dahaniel, see https://live.gnome.org/DejaDup/HowItWorks#Full_Backups for an explanation of why DD makes occasional extra full backups.

Can you help with this problem?
