How does Deja Dup handle timely backups?

Asked by Roasted

Due to recent energy costs, I'm trying to do my best to keep unnecessary machines powered off when they're not needed. As a result, most of the time my desktops stay powered off with only my laptop running during needed use as well as my FreeNAS file server. That said, if I have my desktops set to back up daily, yet I only run them for 1-2 hours a day, is it likely in that time frame that Deja Dup will pick up on it and initiate the backup process?

Is there also a way to get a log feed on when it has done backups?

Thank you for your time and efforts on this project.

Yes, Deja Dup will notice and run. It waits a couple minutes after login to see if it's been long enough since the last run. If so, it starts a backup.

As for whether it keeps logs, no. The best you can do now is to ask when it last ran successfully:

gsettings get org.gnome.DejaDup last-run

Can you help with this problem?
