does Deja Dup take snapshots like back in time

Asked by Chris Smith

Hi,

I am torn between using back in time and Deja Dup as my backup utility (when I get my new external hard drive)

i'd like to back up my entire system, and then have it take snapshots of the system every night so, that any changes to the system are documented and so it takes less spcae to back up and restore my system to a certain point in time.

Does Deja Dup do this?

I would like the backup to be encrypted for safety. (not sure if back in time does this)

Can you help. I was also wondering what the differences are between these two backup tools.

Regards

Chris

Yes, Deja Dup starts with a snapshot then does incremental backups. It also occasionally will make a new snapshot for safety's sake.

Deja Dup does support encryption.

I don't know enough about Back In Time to give a full comparison.

One thing I know is that Deja Dup is geared more for personal home folder backups than system ones. It should still work, I just haven't done as much testing there.

Can you help with this problem?
