Hello Michael Terry `et alia',
I have just read Deja-dup's mission statement, (part of which is copied below). As a very new "newbie", to computers and exclusively to using the Gnome desktop with Ubuntu, I have struggled with many backup solutions. I am learning the command line expressions, but without the fundamentals mastered yet, a lot of very good backup solutions are very challenging for me; I make a lot of mistakes. I want to thank you for seeing the need for people such as I, and implementing a backup strategy through Deja-dup; allowing people with similar limited knowledge, to easily and adequately keep our data safe.
I hope that Deja-dup remains a Backup Solution, for the specific audience it was originated for, (not just for we, who are new now, but more importantly, for future new GNU/Linux users).
Again; Thank you.
Trying to be everyone's One True Backup Solution is doomed to failure. The best experience can be crafted by targeting a specific audience or use case.
Déjà Dup aims squarely at the casual GNOME desktop user. It will take advantage of the GNOME environment to offer an integrated solution. It is not designed for system administrators, but rather the less technically savvy."
