rsyncing against ssh share (sftp) => double transfer size?

Asked by kanub

this thread suggest you shouldn't use rsync on a network share because then rsync can't calculate checksums locally and thus has to transfer the whole file to the client which does the checking (unnecessary transfer). is this issue also true with deja-dup which creates an sftp share when using ssh?

Frankly, I'm not sure. The details of the rsync algorithm are a little lost to me. Try asking on the duplicity mailing list (http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/duplicity-talk). Duplicity is the underlying command line backup program that Deja Dup uses.
