Specify file/folder

Asked by Spray110

Hello again!

I've recovered one whole failing drive using this program, and it worked wonderfully, thank you so much!

I seem to have a problem now, however, trying to select a specific folder to backup. It doesn't actually let me select a folder to backup, it only opens the subfolders, and never returns to the program. Do you have any idea what could be the problem?

I'm a Linux noob btw, slowly learning.

Thanks!

Hello,

Glad you got your data back :).

Unfortunately, due to the way GNU ddrescue and this GUI were designed to work, this program isn't very effective at recovering a folder full of files. It's designed to recover one file at a time, be that single large files, or devices (which are represented as files under Linux and macOS). You could recover each individual file in turn, but I understand that that may not be very convenient if there are a lot of files to recover.

You could also recover the entire partition the files are on, which would also work but just take longer.

Sorry about this!

Hamish
