For how long are segmented downloads shared?
Hiya!
I downloaded file x.mpeg; segmented, ofc. Meanwhiles downloading, I, ofc, uploaded to several other users. This I know about segmented downloading. What I also thought, was that when I have finished my download; the file/segments are no longer available to new users eg. who search for the file.
Anyways, (hours) after my download had finished, I started uploading the file to new(?) users. Is this normal behaviour? And then, for how long are my segmented downloads automatically shared? A specific time? Or up until I close/restart my DC client? A "work-around" if I would not like to share these downloads anymore is, ofc, to rename the file, add a simply note-prefix or such to it's filename, but I'm really more interested in what's going on "under the hood" here! ;)
To be honest, a point to add is to this is that it could be that I had ..erhm.. disconnected some user whom I was uploading to (while I still hadn't finished my download). In this case, could it be that this particular user gets a "liana" / enforced upload slot for this particular file since he's requested it _meanwhile I was still running my download_ ; thus being able to reconnect/resume it even though I've later on finished my download? This could then be a considerable explanation to this.
I've tried a few Google strings for some tutorial that explains how DC's partial file sharing works step-by-step, but I haven't found an satisfying answer yet.
Also, finally, I must admit, this whole post is actually somewhat a "Hail Mary", since, truth to be told, the client it occured on was "the other one", but I just assume that this particular behavior would be exactly the same for ie. DC++/Apex, so that this situation I've described could just as well has been if I had been on DCPlusPlus.exe at the moment. If this is not the case, eg. the methods for PFS are entirely different in these clients (eg. I would not have encountered this issue with DC++), then please just make a one-liner statement that the question is not relevant to your field of department, or something like that; and if behavior is the same, then please co-respond as if I'm reporting this with DCPlusplus.exe ;)
Regards~
