DC++ and IPMsg not working but am able to browse the internet

Asked by Anirudh

Hi...

First of all, I am not an well versed with IP settings and other network related features. So if the details below sound vague, pls ask me for more particular details and where exactly to look for them.

This is the problem I am facing.

DC++:
I have been using DC++ for 8 months now. It all seemed to work fine. But suddenly it doesnt work anymore. I am able to connect to the hub, see all users who are connected but am not able to get their file lists or download anything. Status says "Connecting" and goes on to "Connection Timeout".

I ve changed my IP settings recently but the actual shared file list and the hub IP are the same. I have checked my Windows firewall and antivirus (McAfee) firewall settings. Both allow DC++. I ve even tried to run DC++ with firewalls off. Didnt work this way either. I m using DC++ version 0.698.

IPMsg:
My IPMessenger has also stopped working suddenly. I am able to send messages but all so often it says "Sending failed. Please Retry". Some times the message does go through. But any attachments in my message could not be downloaded. Moreover, I am not able to receive any messages. Status says "Prepare for transfer" and stays like that.

Pls help me get this corrected.

I somehow think this is because of some setting that I changed when I tried to connect using LAN. Now, I dont know how to turn the settings back to normal, because my brother tried a lot of stuff then and did not explain to me what he did.

My internet is working perfectly fine and am not having any problems regarding that.

The version of DC++ that you are using is no longer getting any help support. Try updating to the latest version of DC++. What is your OS as in XP or Vista?

My OS is Vista.

I ve updated to DC++ version 0.75, setup the hub and updated the shared files.

I checked out FAQ #103. I have manually made an entry in my Antivirus Firewall to provide "Full Access" to DC++. My Vista firewall has been turned off completely. No other antivirus or firewall softwares on my laptop. Still it doesn't work.

I somehow feel it is not because my DC++ or firewall setting. Because the same settings were present couple of weeks ago and it did not cause any problem.

I'm on Vista as well & had similar problems like you. Make sure you have the allow rule enable for DC++ on your anti-virus.

Go to this link with pictures & diagrams that you should read. It helped me how to get on active mode: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/dc?text=1

Can you help with this problem?
