Connected but nothing else happens 2

Asked by RobsRose

I have been using this program for a while without any problem at all. Yesterday I begun to have the same problem as humanracer (https://answers.launchpad.net/dcplusplus/+question/66982) except that I'm connecting using XP and the last version of the program (v0.75). I get connected to the any hub I choose inmediately but there's no user in the list and I can not do searches neither.
I tried changing the connection mode (active and passive modes) and obtained the same results.
I also want to know where are the files that contains the configurations options (ports) because attempting to solve the problem I mentioned above, I had changed TCP and UDP ports and now I can not start the program. An alert window appears when I run the application saying that ports TCP and UDP could not be opened.
I'd appreciate any help, thank you.

eMTee suggests this article as an answer to your question:
FAQ #103: “My DC++ is probably blocked by a firewall. How can I unblock?”.

Well, I am behind a firewall (windows XP default firewall) and a router. I have tried disabling the firewall and opening all the ports of the router and still having the same problem :( . I also tried to uninstall and install again DC++ but the configuration still remain
I need to know where does the program store the port information, otherwise I can not open it again

The port settings are not needed to connect to hubs, they are important only for file transfers in one of the 3 kind of active mode. So just run the program, click OK for the messages regarding errors with ports then go to the settings, set the connection to eg. passive mode to avoid these warings, then focus to recommended faq, find out what blocks your DC++ to connect to hubs / retrieve hublists.

Go to File/Settings/Connection Settings, update the information of External WAN/IP. To get your current IP, go to http://www.canyouseeme.org. Also, put TLS/TCP/UDP number. TCP/UDP default number is 1412 & 3528 is the alternative number. TLS can be any number between 1025 through 32768. Enable Don't allow hub/UPnP to override.

If you need any further help, this link should answer your question: https://answers.launchpad.net/dcplusplus/+faq/131

If you are unable to connect & get on active mode, go this page http://www.dslreports.com/faq/dc?text=1 & try to find this item & download: UPnPTest.Exe

This is abnormal. There are possible message windows but after they are shown, DC++ shouldn't quit!
What are the message(s) exactly? Are you sure they come from DC++ actually and not from another software which blocks DC++?

The alert messages come from DC++. First display an error alert cause couldn't open TCP port and then another one cause couldn't open UDP port. After that a windows xp alert message appears saying that DC++ encountered an error and warning that the application will shutdown

Ah, you didn't tell that it crashes, just that it exits... most probably you've found a bug in DC++ :)
Locate DC++ settings files (they can be either in the DC++ program folder or better in your user profile, in ...\Application Data\DC++. (This depends on how do you installed DC++, read more : http://dcpp.wordpress.com/2009/03/11/boost-up-your-dc/ ).
They have *.xml extension, like DCPlusPlus.xml, Queue.xml, Favorites.xml,...
Try to rename or move out the files from the folder one by one and try to start DC++ after each rename. You should find out what file causes the crash.

If you'd like to help us to detect and solve this crash problem please read the crash report faq : https://answers.launchpad.net/dcplusplus/+faq/337 This is up to you, we'd appreciate your time.

Thanks for your patience eMTee, now I reached the xml files, changed the ports from outside the program and opened it normally again :)
The first link you suggested, helped me. Xml files were at the %APPDATA% local variable location.
Thank you!!!!

Still, if you have 10 minutes of free time, I'd send you a debug build and you could send us back the crash report. It seems there is a rare crash problem when DC++ trying to open used ports and the developers can't reproduce it. This way, you can help other users who may run into this problem... the developer hub's address is adcs://devpublic.adcportal.com:16591 you can get assistance there.
TIA

I believe that this problem arise when I set UPnP enviroment ports defined in windows XP firewall exceptions as the ports for DC++. Try this configuration
