computer compromised?

Asked by Leeanna

I have a different color for downloads and uploads when using dc++. Recently I've noticed that when I enter a hub different users are using my computer to download the hub file lists. This shows up through my download color. When I open my download queue they are there also. I disconnect them all. Does this mean that my computer has been compromised? If so how do I fix this short of a clean install? I faithfully use my anti-virus and spy ware programs which up till the last couple of months have been working fine to catch anything on my computer. Thanks for your input.

What version of DC++ are you using & OS as in XP or Vista?

Do you have a screenshot?

no, all this means is that there are file lists in your download queue; either you added them by yourself using the "Get file list" or "Browse file list" command; or DC++ added them for you automatically in order to find more download sources. if they bother you, you can right-click them in the download queue window and select "Remove". you can also disable the "Automatically match queue for search hits" option in settings > Queue if you don't want DC++ to look for more potential sources by itself.

in any case, all that happens here is that you are downloading file lists from other people, and the only possible consequence of a successful file list download is for you to get more possible sources for your current downloads. no reason to be worried at all.

i'd like to emphasize where you are wrong:
"Recently I've noticed that when I enter a hub different users are using my computer to download the hub file lists."

- it's not them who are downloading file lists from you, but the other way around; you are downloading from them.
- there is no "hub file list", only per-user file lists. DC++ is just trying to get these users' file lists on your behalf to help you get faster downloads.

I stand corrected Poy, I meant to say user file lists. I rarely request a user file. I only use the search option for specific downloads that I'm looking for. I've used dc++ for the past five years on the regular. This is something I've never seen till the past month or two. It's quite odd.

this is most likely due to the "Automatically match queue for search hits" option i mentioned above; that option used to be disabled in previous versions, and it is enabled in recent ones. check its value, if it is enabled, there you have it.
then again you shouldn't have to disable it, because downloading more file lists is totally harmless.
