Why do my downloads always slow down MASSIVELY just near completion?

Asked by Wren

For Example, a file will be downloading from 30 users at a total of 300Kibs for virtually the whole download process, except until it nearly reaches the end. Then the No. of users will get less & less as will the download speed, eventually ending in just 1 user downloading from & a speed of less than 1Kibs.

Thus the last 5% of the download can take longer than the first 95%.

This happens to all downloads.

Other users have reported this exact problem, but there doesn't seem to be any answers out there.

Please help.

Read the 'Slow Downloads' FAQ on DC++ help or at http://www.dslreports.com/faq/8735 for possible reasons and solutions.

On your Files/Settings/Downloads/Queue, do you have these 2 items enabled: Automatically search for alternative download locations & Automatically match queue for search hits?

Set your download priority to highest on your download queue by right-clicking on that file.

DC++ downloads from several sources at once (if more available) and if the download reaches near the end it finishies the existing chunks from their current sources. Obiviously if the download is near the end the high speed sources finishes their chunks first and it will take more time the slower ones to finish. This is the reason of your problem.
What you can do :
- Disconect the existing slow connections manually. DC++ will check for other sources immediately and if you are lucky it'll find a faster source to finish a lot faster
- Use the Autodrop settings in Settings/Downloads/Download Queue. You can set parameters so what's written above can happen automatically

Note that StrgDC++ and its derivatives have a function for this problem and if its enabled it'll switch to / overlap with another source when the last chunk is downloaded. If yours is an everyday problem you may consider to switch client...
