DC++ Causes Blue Screen

Asked by ScruffyTheJanitor

Whenever I use DC++ for even a few minutes my computer crashes with a blue screen of death. I've seen 2 different error messages so far: BAD_POOL_CALLER and DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. In addition, after a crash some of my settings changes are lost. After the most recent crash, my list of favorite hubs was empty.

I'm almost positive that DC++ is causing the problem. I can leave my computer running for days at a time and play games for hours with no problems. But when I start DC++, blue screen after a few minutes.

I haven't changed any hardware since this started happening. I've only made 2 changes that I can imagine being relevent: installed Vista 64-bit, and downgraded to an older version of DC++ (now using v .699, required by the hub I go to).

SLight edit: only settings changes I made just before the crash are lost. If I close DC++ before it crashes the changes are saved,

Your client is no longer getting any help support. Try using the latest version of DC++.

One of the hubs I go to will ban anyone using a client capable of segmented downloading, hence why I used the older client. However, just to see what would happen, I upgraded to the latest version of DC++ (0.7091) and connected only to the other hub I go to. Still got the same blue screen. If anything I think i got it faster this time.

Try DC++ 0.75. You can disable segmented download by going to File, Settings, Advanced & uncheck Enable segmented download. In order for disable segment download to take effect, you need to close DC++ application & reopen again.

See if a blue screen when you use DC++ 0.75. If a blue screen appears on DC++ 0.75, try using a screen capture that you can attach & post to this forum.

DC++ can't provoke a BSOD all by itself; most likely, drivers that DC++ tries to use (eg, your network card drivers) are the real cause.

Upgraded to version 0.75. Still got a bluescreen. Here's a link to a screenshot:

That third number got cut off. It's 0x0000000000000001

Still, we can't do anything for you since as poy told, DC++ itself can't cause blue screen, this should be a problem with your hardware or with an installed driver (most likely with network or storage drivers/hw). If you google about these error messages you'll find tons of answers what you can try....
Ive just find a great article about different BSOD errors and their possible causes : http://www.updatexp.com/stop-messages.html

This is not a DC++ problem. It must be your system. I've gotten that message before from an old computer. If you are using a new computer with latest hardware/driver, then you shouldn't have any problems.

Updating my NIC drivers seemed to solve the problem. Thanks for the help. I was skeptical that this was hardware/driver related since I've never had this problem before and it only ever occurred when using DC++.
