dc++ refuses to let me register GRRRRR

Asked by Krazykiya

Hi everyone,

I have just joined Launchpad seeing how helpful members are :)

Right so I have had dc for about two years now and about a week ago it just stopped working. On opening the application it says failed to generate tls certificate. I cannot connect to any hubs, it says that the machine actively refused it!

My DC is not blocked by a firewall, I have checked my settings, I think I downloaded and re- installed dc 20 times this week already.

I am using a HP 530 laptop running on vista home basic

I am at university but my quota is not up.

ANY help will be appreciated:)

Thanks

"it says that the machine actively refused it!"
This means the hub is down. Simplest solution : Try another hub.
"On opening the application it says failed to generate tls certificate"
That should not affect the basic functionality, it's used for another purpose

Pietry suggests this article as an answer to your question:
FAQ #82: “I keep getting unable to register... like, TLS or certificate file related error(s) at startup. Search/download does not work. What should I do?”.

To solve the "unable" thing you may try running DC++ with admin rights from your vista box

Hey, Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I am trying like 8 different hubs surely all cant be down yeah? and how do i run with admin rights? I am the only user. If you mean run as admin, I have done that...

Right click dcplusplus.exe and you see an option Run with administrator rights.

Try the dcdev hub adc://devpublic.adcportal.com:16591 that is working. If not, then you have a problem...

I dont know if this matters, but I installed f secure anti virus from my university website before my dc started acting up....

Yes that's the only thing that matters. You told : "My DC is not blocked by a firewall,"...
Depending on what kind of f-secure it is (av or client/internet security edition) it may contain application control or firewall (or both) feature. You must enable DC++ Internet access in them...

poy suggests section 4 of this article as an answer to your question:
FAQ #103: “My DC++ is probably blocked by a firewall. How can I unblock?”.

Thanks a lot,

I checked that FAQ already before posting and DC++ is not blocked by a firewall (just to check if im doing it right: start > controlpannel > Windows firewall> allow a program through and then add DC++..?)

Lyk eMTee said, it probably has something to do with f-secure... which I don't know how to get around.... :/

it's called a firewall because it blocks internet connections; apparently f-secure call it "internet shield"...

you should find your answers on <http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/supportissue/fsis2008/index.shtml#A7>.

There is honestly no internet shield tab.... theres home, virus and spy, auto updates and central man....

I downloaded it from my university software site- could they have removed that option?
