Will not connect. Grrrrrrrrrrr

Asked by A-D-A-M

PC Vista HP
Belkin F5D9630-4v3 modem/router
DC++ 0.7091

Can't get it to connect in any mode, even passive.

I tried to follow the instructions in portforward.com but both the DC++ version and the Belkin software were older (and different) than what I have.

When I try to get a hub list I get this message.

Download failed: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine. (http://dchublist.com/globalhublist.xml.bz2)

Same error message for any hub lists.

I try to connect into hubs I previously used on another machine (RIP), the message says "connected" but nothing is there. No users, no messages, nothing.

Anyone any ideas?

eMTee suggests this article as an answer to your question:
FAQ #103: “My DC++ is probably blocked by a firewall. How can I unblock?”.

Try this for FAQ for hublists. Obiviously you can skip the firewall part. Let's see if you able to get hublists. dchublist.com/globalhublist.xml.bz2 is working for me atm.... :
FAQ #102: “I am unable to download hublists. Solution?”.

Same again.

"Download failed: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine."

I can't get the latest version number in the "About" dialogue box either.

Thats what I wanted to ask next. If This means that your DC++ is blocked accessing the Internet. Do you installed DC++ newly or copied the settings from the old computer? What can you see in the Bind Address box of Settings/Advanced/Experts Only panel? Is it empty?

I re-installed DC++ just on the off-chance...no change.

I also installed ApexDC, that can see the hublists, but I still can't see anything in individual hubs.

Fresh install, nothing copied over as the HD failed on my old PC :-(

Bind Add box is blank.

This can be only a firewall problem then. Maybe some preinstalled software (if you bought your HP computer with Vista preinstalled) contains firewall... In case of some security software its not enough to disable, either must be configured to enable certain applications to access the Internet or must be fully uninstalled.
May you want to try to boot safe mode with networking, the blocking software may doesn't loaded this way...
I assume p2p blocking by your provider can be ruled out as you used DC++ in your old computer without problems.

LOL, now getting "An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine" on Apex as well - although I can still see the hublists!
DC++ still in denial!

PC was only supplied with Vista, & firewall is off. I managed to get my AV license transfered over, so no change there. The router settings were never changed either, except to add the new PC of course. I can't remember the version of DC++ on my old machine, which was running XP SP2.

Further info - I'm on Pipex and my connection type is (it says) PPPoA.

I'm just about ready to give up with this, surely it shouldn't be this difficult?

Have also tried 697 & 647, neither will connect, Apex still manages to get the hublists but any hub connections report me as connected, but I can't see any users or messages.

Don't you mean DC++ 0.674 & 0.699? There is no DC++ 0.647.

674, yes.
Still doesn't work though.

Since you are on Vista, DC++ 0.700 & above is stable. While XP is good for old clients like 0.699.

Another thing, you need to google UPnPTest.Exe, I had similar problems like you had before.
