Speed drops to near-zero after time

Asked by kadrach

Hi, as stated above, my download speed drops from 10-20MiB/s to a few hundred bytes per second after seemingly random amounts of time.

Running vista x64, using only kaspersky antivirus.

I have not found any problem quite like mine on launchpad, so i am at a loss here,
I have absolutely no idea why this is happening :)

Oh, restarting DC++ instantly solves the problem - again, i start at high speed only to see it drop to mere bytes per second within a few minutes

What version of DC++ are you using?

Are you on a firewall and/or router?

What is your mode on Connection settings, as in active/passive/socks5?

Hey, i am currently using dc++ 0.707

The hubs i am connecting to are within the intranet of my uni/dorm, there is no active firewall as far as i know. Also, I seem to be the only one suffering from this problem.

Connection setting is active :)

Make sure that Kaspersky doesn't include one, and you added dc++ as an exception for all other possible Kaspersky system protection modes (if any) as well.
The latest version is 0.7091 btw.

No, that does not solve the problem. Uninstalled Kaspersky Antivirus, problem still there.

What happens if you switch to passive mode and try to download from active users?

i've had similar problems in Vista x64 until i ran the command:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
reason being that my router wasn't able to cope with packets of changing sizes.

you may also want to disable QoS under connection properties.

Neither switching to passive mode nor above settings solve the problem.

it might be one of the devices involved in the connection - eg your network card or the device it is linked to - that doesn't support too fast transfers. when this happen(ed) to me, i generally ping my router, then a random website on the net, to see if the slow-down is between my comp and my router, or between my router and my ISP.

do you download from several sources at a time, or only one? if it's the latter then you might want to try with different users, see if the slow-down isn't on your uploader's end instead.
