ONLINE User showing in download queue as OFFLINE

Asked by LadyofOZ

I am scratching my head over this one. I have been a user of DC for many years and have not come across this problem before. I have several folders queued on a few different people in my own hub. The people are there and have slots free, but the download section says "All download slots taken". Also, I can get their file list but in the download queue the files show as "User Offline" and will not start downloads. I have tried upgrading (am still using 0.674 because there are still users around using older clients). I temporarily upgraded to the latest version but lost all the connections (all queued went to "no users to download from" so that wasn't any help. This problem is only happening with 3 people in my hub. There are others I'm downloading from without a problem. Can you assist please?

Okay had a blonde moment on the "all download slots taken" part and have fixed that one.
Still doesn't explain why users on the download queue are showing as offline when they aren't though. Can you help me on this one?
Also, while I'm at it, have problems for a long time connecting to the odd few people in my hub to even get their file lists. Have no problem connecting to them when I'm on another IP address though. They are quite sure they have no IP range blockers (if they did they wouldn't be able to get into the hub anyway, yes?) They are easily able to download my list and my shares, but not visa-versa. Can you help with this one too?
Regards and keep up the good work.

Check out the upgrade faq in the Help of the newest version about this.

For the other problem, sorry to say, but only the latest version supported here. This could be because one of tons of bugs fixed since 0.674...
Upgrade to the newest version, try to regain the sources by Match Queue. If the problem still exist and those "odd" users also use new clients then go back for further help.

Are you on firewall or router? Also, are you on active mode instead of passive?

Hi Twilight2013 - Connection is Active - router is port forwarded. No problems with most users, just a select few.

Thanks eMTee will load the newer version separately to see, but unfortunately I still have users that insist on using pre 401 versions (mostly due to other hubs not allowing other versions in) and the newer versions past 0.674 won't connect to 401 or older. I know they should upgrade but try tellling that to some of the other private hubs they are in - some people are quite paranoid. Does the newest version still connect to 0.674 as most people in my hub are on that version.

I have tried Match Queue - it downloads their lists (because they ARE online) but still says they are offline in the download queue.

Users who are using old DC++ clients want to dwell & live in the past. Yes! New versions of DC++, 0.69 & above, can connect to users with DC++ 0.674.

This should answer your question on why users with old clients are unable to connect to new versions of DC++ if you read the changelog.
Beginning in DC++ 0.69 - Removed support for generating NMDC-style file lists (old clients won't be able to download from you) as in users who are using DC++, 0.401 & below, that don't have the Tiger Tree Hash (TTH) feature.

Here's the changelog link to read on the changes that DC++ has made in 7+ years: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/%7Edcplusplus-team/dcplusplus/trunk/annotate/1508?file_id=16%40f586c4b0-9d0d-0410-bc51-f1fe239209fc%3Adcplusplus%252Ftrunk%3Achangelog.txt

Hope this information helps.

Hi Twilight - I was aware that older versions don't connect with newer ones but the people I was having probs connecting with were 0.674 as was the version I was trying to connect with. However having said that I've managed to connect to their 0.674 versions using the latest copy 0.7091. Thanks :) Now I just have to convince a couple of diehards in my hub to upgrade as well.
Regards and keep up the great work on the best P2P in the world!
