Behind NAT and cannot connect using DC++

Asked by stinger05

Hello there,

Well first I'd like to declare as much as info as possible concerning my connectivity with DC++....

- I have a residential ADSL connection using a "speedtouch 516v6" modem (it's also known as a router)
- I entered 192.168.1.254 on my browser in order to forward the ports of DC++ which is 1412 and port range 1025-32000 and assigned it to my static IP address.
- I also tried connecting using UPnP ( having all results "PASSED" using UPnP Test Program v1.15) but still get no search results wth DC++
- I have configured DC++ with manual ports including those mentioned above
- I have DC++ added and accepted on Windows XP firewall
- My ISP said that they don't block ports at all and that they only have port 1025 blocked for security reasons

With all this info I cannot get search results at all, even after trying online guides in websites including portforward.com

I think I might have a NAT problem, any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your concern! :)

What version of DC++ you are using? Are you able to download filelists? When you set manual port forwarding can you see the port open in www.canyouseeme.org? Are search & download work in passive mode?

- Yes, I'm able to download filelists
- No, I can't see see the port open in canyouseeme.org
-Yes, Im able to search and download in passive mode, but i suppose it's too slow

again, thanks for your reply :)

make sure you not only forwarded your TCP port but also your UDP (used for active search) if i remeber correct you need 2 "rules" in that router :)

thanks Pirre, well actually i have it on both TCP and UDP, and I don't assume that's the problem.

Forward two different ports for TCP and UDP and check them with canyouseeme.org. If your downloads work in active mode (as you said), then you have problems only with the UDP port.

I just found out that my ISP has blocked all port ranges for DC++, and they only open such ports with a real IP address (which would cost me 200 dollars/year). I don't think it's worth paying that much for a bunch of ports to be opened. I now have a fake IP that changes whenever I reconnect , so is there a way to bypass or "tunnel" through another port inorder to get DC++ working?

Thanks a lot for your cooperation...:)

Probably not. Seems you are behind a double NAT and firewall in your provider so the only way to use p2p is passive mode.

Its not any slower than active mode you just can't connect to all users in the DC network.

mmm, well yeah it works and I wouldn't mind using it in passive mode, but...are there any specific hubs that contain passive users? if so, how can know which ones have?

Every hub contain both active and passive users. You can download from only the active ones while you are in passive mode. Go to DC++ help, FAQs and check out " What DC++ tags mean?" There you'll see how to find active users.
It doesn't hurt to read the other faqs there as well so you can learn the basic things about DC like the above.
