Can't get file list from other users, everything else works

Asked by Vort

Hi & thanks for taking the time to help with this.

As said, I cannot get a file list from any user out there. I just started using DC++ a few days ago, opened up the ports on my router firewall (don't have a software firewall), entered (and update) my IP, set up active connection and everything works fine. Except for getting a file list from any given user. Oh - and downloading whole directories. No matter what I do, those two things won't work.

People can get MY file list. I can get THEIR files. I can search, find, download,... everything works, just not those two things mentioned above and neither me nor a few people I talked to, know why. I tried in active mode, I switched to passive mode (just to make sure) and nope, it won't work either.

Have you tried on more hubs? Are the filelists/directories appear in your download queue? Are they start connecting/downloading then disconnecting?
If you use the latest version of DC++ check the 'Slow download speeds' FAQ for more tips, especially the 3rd option from the 'Slow downloads from every user' part.

Tried it on several hubs with dozens of people. The filelists appear in the queue (under "Filelists"). If I remember correctly, the Directories do not appear at all.

And I don't have slow downloads. My downloads are fine. Except for those two things.

P.S.: Can't find the FAQ you are referring to.

If you try to add directories from a search result list then DC++ needs to get the filelist to obtain data from the contents of the folder. So this is the same cause.
I see that your downloads are ok but the referred item may helps you to resolve this problem. Its in the Help file/FAQs section only if you use DC++ version 0.707 (the latest). Make sure you use this version if not, upgrade, get it from http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net Also make sure you use DC++ and not any modified version of it (Help/About box)

There is a web link for the referred faq, either : http://www.dslreports.com/faq/8735

If you can't make it working with the faq recommendations we need to know what can you see in the Status column of transfer view (bottom window) when you try to download a single filelist.

Ok, tried the stuff in the help/FAQ and it's pretty much exactly what I already did. DSL connection is fine, Router is fine, ports are open, etc. :/

So, this is what I get when I try to download a directory:
In the download window, it gives me the user & hub, then it says "connecting", the size is 0B (sometimes -1B). No Path, no Speed, no Time Left, no Filename, no IP. After a while it says "disconnected", IIRC.

:/

Ah, when it gets to "Disconnected", the Filename becomes the users name, the path will be my FileLists folder, and the size is "-1 B".

Seems you still can't see what >>PART<< of that faq I mean so I need to quote it :/

3rd option from the 'Slow downloads from every user' part.

"You haven't set up your third party firewall or internet monitor software correctly.
>>Some of these security applications may treat P2P transfer as a DDoS flood attempt and tries to defend your computer from it. Try to disable or even uninstall these applications temporarily and test your downloads again.<<
If it helps refer the application's documentation how to make exception rules for DC++. If you have a router its also possible that it has some anti-DDoS or flood protection feature and it may enabled by default. Check the router's documentation or configuration page for a possible option of this kind."

Make sure you tried / checked all of this...I also need the version information I requested before.

>>Make sure you use DC++ version 0.707 if not, upgrade, get it from http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net Also make sure you use DC++ and not any modified version of it (Help/About box)<<

This is an unusual problem so I can't help you if you don't provide ALL the requested info.

As I said: Router is fine, I read that part. ;-)

And sorry, I overread the part about the version. I am using RevConnect, which might be the problem. Going to try something else.

As you can see this is a support forum for (vanilla) DC++ ONLY. We can't help you with problems of other mods here. If you plan to download and use DC++ and the problem persists then reopen this topic.

Yup, that was exactly the problem. RevConnect uses an old version and hasn't been updated. As soon as I switched to vanilla DC++ (and then to StrongDC++), I had NO problems whatsoever.

Sorry about this - I was directed here, told to ask my question, even after I said that I used RevConnect. Didn't realize until I read your version note, that this is only pure DC++ client help.

Well, thanks for your time anyways. It was that exact pointer of yours, that finally cleared this up! :-)
